Who we are & What can we help you with
Joseph David Engineering are a structural engineering consultancy based in Dundee in Scotland. The company is in its infancy but at the helm, is a highly experienced Chartered Structural Engineer with almost 20 years experience.
The vision is to provide a structural service with reduced timeframes in comparison to our competitors while still delivering a quality and comprehensive service. It is the intention to build close partnerships with clients, architects and other industry professions to build lasting relationships, both in and out the office. This will hopefully in turn help streamline process of achieving shared goals such as planning and building warrant approvals.
We feel we have the capabilities to provide a service for most structural requirements but we are focused primarily on the residential, commercial and industrial sectors.
We are looking to undertake the structural design aspects of projects including planning and building warrant stages. At the building warrant stage we have an capabilities to provide Structural Engineers Registration (SER) approved certificates for most projects within the sectors above.
We are also able to undertake structural inspections for most structures and can issue reports to suit tight timelines.
A brief breakdown of your potential project timeline
If your in Scotland most councils if not all will have a similar process to allow you to get all your required permissions to complete your project. Some of these steps are only applicable to specific types of projects which your Architect will be able to explain further to you:-
Step 1 Appoint an Architect for your project
Step 2 Confirm if your project requires planning permission
Step 3 If so instruct your architect to submit a planning application. If no planning permission is required, move to step 5
Step 4 Obtain Planning permission from your respective council
Step 5 Through your Architect appoint other disciplines required to permit the preparation of Building warrant package.
Step 6 Appoint Joseph David Engineering for your Structural engineering design
Step 7 JDE & Associated Architect ( plus any other disciplines) prepare Building warrant design & drawing package. As part of this, JDE will complete a Structural Engineers Registration (SER certification)
Step 8 Submit building warrant design and drawing package
Step 9 Seek preliminary tender/comparative costs from contractors for your project while you await decision on building warrant. Price to be confirmed following approval of Building Warrant Package from Council
Step 10 Received Building Warrant approval
Step 11 Appoint Contractor and plan construction phase.
